Doing 2 Direct Sales Companies? That's One Too Many!

Posted on June 10, 2017 by Jo Andreacchio

You're working hard to build a successful Scentsy business, putting in the hours, effort and consistency required in building your own business and out of the blue, someone offers you the shiny opportunity to another business... and you think to yourself 'Are 2 Direct Sales businesses better than 1?'.

The temptation to take on another that shiny new carrot being dangled in front of you can be overwhelming, especially if you are not doing well with your current business or you've lost your motivation. You'll make all sorts of justifications as to why joining the new opportunity is a great idea.

Stop! Before you do anything, consider the reasoning why joining another direct sales company could potentially undo and damage all that hard work you've poured into your current business.

trust

Trust is vital in this industry and without it, your business growth will falter and stagnate.

You may think marketing two (or more) companies is about working smarter however think about the message you are sending to customers, your team members, your upline and potential business partners. You are diluting your credibility with EVERYONE.

If I've said it once, I'll say it again - many people will watch you for a while before deciding to join your team or even purchase from you. And brand (yes, this means brand YOU) trust is earned through consistentcy, reputation and stability.

Customers want transparency in your interaction, they want to trust in purchasing from you. They need to know with certainty you will be there to service them. As George Michael taught us - you gotta have faith.

Potential team members are often quietly observing from the sidelines. Watching your successful steps, as well as how you overcome trials and tribulations. They are using this as a barometer. When they do decide to join your team, will you be capable of coaching, supporting and fulfilling your leadership obligations? The proof is in the pudding. Remember, your main product is your OPPORTUNITY!

What you convey by joining another company is this: You aren't serious. You are not committed. You are easily distracted. That your word cannot be trusted. That your current company isn't all it's cracked up to be. That you need to join another company to make money.

You are kidding yourself if you think you can give both of your businesses equal time and effort! I don’t think I’ve seen anyone do it successfully yet.

Will you have the time to double the customer follow up and customer service? What about marketing and advertising both businesses within the realms of each company's policies? You post for two businesses on Facebook, your customers get more than 1 newsletter and it becomes overwhleming and confusing. And at what point do you find yourself getting confused? This is where customers will either not purchase as often.. or worse! Find another consultant who is more dedicated and committed.

If you have built teams with both or either company, I can guarantee that your team will feel you check out of your business as you pour energy and resources into your second company, eventually feeling undervalued. They will receive your mixed messages that you can't possibly be successful with either company and the dream you sold them was a lie.

And all of the above doesn't take into account, the quotas/autoships, conventions and travel (will you attend both or only one?), the costs of running two businesses as well as any company policies that are in place.

chasing 2 direct sales rabbits

If you are joining merely for your own personal discount (I mean, who doesn't love getting cheaper product right?), then have at it. But then there's no need to set up a Facebook business page, have a company website or advertise, is there? Otherwise, consider building a relationship with a consultant in that company and becoming a stellar host!

As they say - 'the man who chases two rabbits, catches neither'. Focus where you mean to grow and you will have the success you searching for!
